Most tropical plants will mostly rest over the winter months & need little in the way of nutrients. Much depends on how much light they get (the better the light, the greater the growth rate), your watering habits (frequent and copious waterings of an open soil will see you needing to replenish available nutrients much more frequently than little sips applied to a less aerated soil), and growth activity (Elemental nutrients are building blocks that plants use to manufacture their food. When they are not manufacturing that food, they are not using them).

I know you've asked this question a number times, but there is no answer to it - especially since you haven't furnished your zone or where in the country you live. This has a major inpact on what might be appropriate. Perhaps you could fertilize at full recommended strength in 2-4 week intervals when the plant is growing strongly, at 1/2 strength at 2-4 week intervals when the plant is just starting to grow hard, and monthly at 1/4 strength when the plant is in a near-quiescent state.

Al, Thanks. I did mention in one of my other posts that I am in the Chicago area. Are you saying that in your soil mixture I would need to add nutrients at least monthly to every 2 weeks? What nutrient mixes have you come across that might be good for my tropicals?
