Germination issues.

Hi guys,

I have two raised garden beds which I am having extreme difficulty getting plants to germinate. Even seeds such as raddishes are not germinating well. The weather is warm, the beds are watered daily in the evening, they get 6+ hours of sun each day and the seeds are fresh.

Transplanted plants seem to be doing just fine, it's just getting the seeds to germinate is the problem.

The only thing I can find which maybe a factor is one of my books, The vegetable gardener's bible, it mentions if the soil's PH is too low this could be a culprit.

I did a homemade soil test , using vinager and a sample of soil from three spots and the soil's PH seems to be on the higher side , rather more alkaline than acidic. I plan to get a better test soon once I read some reviews on a good one.

However say my soil's PH is slightly high would this be a cause?

Any suggestions as to what I should start looking for? I'm trying to grow watermelon, New Zealand spinach, Raddishes and Lima Beans. The watermelon and New Zealand spinach had no germination where the raddishes and lima beans has very little germination.
