groundhogs definitely love it... they tend to break it off after it's out of the ground though...

back when we had ditch irrigation asparagus grew wild on the ditch banks. we would pick it like crazy in the spring. i had a dog that we had to tie up when we picked asparagus because it would run ahead of us and eat the asparagus before we could get it.

Yes, I have been planting asparagus crowns and yesterday I caught my dog digging them up and chewing them. We had a little conversation about that, I was not happy. Also I think rabbits will eat it.

I used to pick it wild as a kid, lots of it in the apple orchards right next to the trees.

Ground hog, rabbits & raccoons should be roasted until tender.
Dogs, well that left up to you, I do not let them run in my garden. The dogs have to stay outside with the smokers.

Incorrectly phrased... Fresh asparagus should be served with a side dish of either ground hog, rabbit or raccoon for a tempting spring meal. ;-)

I've never had anything eat my asparagus, except for the human type critters. I've had ground hogs eat the wiring harness in a car, tho. What a shock to raise the hood to check the oil & have a ground hog staring at ya. $900.00 later, my car was once again driveable.

The only way I've found to catch a ground hog, is off the end of a gun. No matter what I put in the live trap...they'd walk right past it.
