I always bring these beans to preschool. We plant them in ziploc bags with moistened potting mix and throw them in a sunny window. We get great germination and the kids love it! Lima beans work great because they can see the parts of the seed...

LOL! I bet you were surprised to see that growing up out of the sink drain! Too funny... I've had great luck with growing beens from the dry bean section in the grocery. Harry's and Trader Joe's have lots of neat varieties too.

Reminds me of a little fib my older brother convinced me of when I was little. He said if I swallowed a watermelon seed it would grow in my stomach. ~As I was eating watermelon and accidently swallowed one. Needless to say it scared the heck out of me...For months I would stand in front of a mirror each day and open my mouth real wide so I could see the vine growing. ~lol~

I don't remember what morning show I saw it on, but I saw a segment about a man who was having problems with coughing and chest pain. He and his doctor feared it was lung cancer, so they did an x-ray. Instead of cancer, they saw a bean (or possibly pea) seedling! He had apparently aspirated it while eating and it had germinated in his lung.

Wow...! Talk about Invasion of the Body Snathchers?

I actually knew of a neighborhood kid that happened to. But it was a pea in the lung. Nasty, nasty scar! If you think about it, as long as the seed doesn't require light for germination, why wouldn't it grow in a warm, damp place?

Sure gives the willies...
