I have a couple here but I just let the birds get the fruit so I've no idea about taste. Do you really have so little room you need to grow a dwarf blueberry? They are advertised as ornamental but there are plenty of equally ornamental blueberries (varieties with good fall color) that have excellent fruit.

I tried tophats with little luck. Only one survived and didn't produce well. It's still in my garden, but I don't have a lot of faith in it. However, it did produce about 10 berries last summer and they were very sweet.

Can anyone tell me why my Top Hat doesn't flower and bear fruit? My plant grows in a terra cotta pot in 4 hours of sun a day, is fertilized with Miracle Grow time release fertilizer several times a year, and growing in moisture control potting soil. While the plant seems very healthy and is bushy, it doesn't flower. Do I need more acidic soil and maybe giving the plant too much moisture? I do water it a lot since it grows in a porousy container and in full, hot sun.

Just a thought, as I'm no specialist, but you may be overfertilzing it. I think that I've read that blueberries don't need all that much ferilizer. You may be feeding the leaves at the cost to flowers/fruit. I've never fertilzed mine going on five years, but then, they are in the ground. Again, just a thought.

Based on what I've read, Top Hat isn't that great on flavor (Hartmann's lists it as "ornamental only." I think North Country (also drawf and hardy) would be a better bet.

North Country  Short in stature, plant maturing at 20" high. Fruits are small and flavorful, good for home gardener use. This cultivar is an outstanding ornamental with profuse flowering and brilliant fall colors. Grown successfully in zones 3-8.
