A slightly deeper grey will look great with the dark green trim and door. Not so sure about the black roof tiles, though --- black tends to absorb a lot heat. But if they make you happy, go for it.

I think either the deeper grey or a taupe would be great. I would choose the color before you jump into the black roof. Ever Consider a metal roof? We are going through the same thing. We want to change the look of our home too. Good luck.

Yes, you are right there should be some contrast. So black maybe the best choice in the end. But I would pick the house color first, because you might be able to choose something a little lighter the black. Black could make your home hotter, and have to use more energy to cool it. But I will say the home my parents had when I was young had a black roof and it looked nice. They look like very nice roofing tiles.

Yes, German :-))) So, this is going to be more and more interesting for me :-), because it should be modern - more than traditional. Unfortunately I cannot change the window color. Entry door, exterior color and roof are still in progress. So, what about: green windows, green door, mid-grey exterior color and dark-grey/black roof?
By the way, I would avoid doing anything with wood, because of it's maintenance. There is a product that looks like stone, but it isn't. Maybe that can be used as a modern combination at the entrance area, but I am not sure ( http://www.oldstones.de/frame1024.html).

I always think of grey as modern, but I like Taupe too. Taupe is the grayish version of tan. Your house will probably look great either way. It is a very nice looking home. Our house is tan with green, and is a 1980's modern tri-level that really needs to be updated.

I'm stuck with dark green windows, too ... a bazillion of them! The stucco exterior is a lovely warm, medium taupe with red/pink undertones, and it blends beautifully with the warm green windows. Here in California, the green windows make the house look dated and most people know that if the windows are green, the house was probably built in the 1990's. True enough, but can't possibly afford to swap out all the windows! When we bought the house, the front double doors and ancillary patio doors with sidelights were all painted to match the green windows. Over time, we've tried to down-play the green, and have painted all the exterior doors, columns and shutters a darker -- but still warm taupe -- than the stucco walls. Our roof is authentic red mexican tile and integrates well with the overall "warm" color scheme. The main point is that I wouldn't continue to emhasize the green windows by painting other architectural elements to match. Two wrongs don't make a right!

Luckily the shape of your house so far is really open to any style.

I think grey or taupe with grey undertones would work.My last house was taupe and the paint looked too pink to me so they started adding drops of black paint to the base color until I liked the look. I also had a black roof. You might also like a dark grey roof with a lighter grey on the house. I think your green will work with either. It helps to get a quart of the colors you like and paint a good size board and lay it against your house. Look at it in different light and with your window color. Have fun and good luck!

I think white would actually be really sharp and clean looking. So long as the undertone worked with the color of the stone. The contrast would be modern looking in my opinion. Your house is really attractive!

I love your house, I think it has a charm and authentic look . The black roof will work for Modern. Also black window trim.
Modern is about no ornamentation, very little colour so the taupe for me is wrong.
I would paint a grey mist nearly a white . Clean lines with minimum sculpted planted ornamental trees in very large square planter boxes(black)

There is alot of takes on Modern. One is a Post American Modern. This would work with taupe. It referances to the Art Deco shapes and esthetics.

Try light grey stucco with a touch of Moss green, it's modern and will compliment the green windows. Add some rock that picks up the greens and greys and trim the windows and doors in black if you want to keep the architectural trim. You can also put a matching trim like a baseboard around the bottom in black to bring your eye down the building. Just a thought!

Thank you so much for all the compliments of our house (although it is a very old one that needs to be urgently updated) and for all the useful hints. I will keep everything in mind. So, we will choose the exterior color within the next few weeks, right BEFORE we will get the new roof in order to be able to change the color of the roof tiles between black and dark grey. We will try to find a color, either a gey-ish version or a grey-with-a-bit-taupe color or maybe a mud-color.

I like the idea of the black window trim. Probably would not notice the green as much.
Maybe test it some how. Cardboard painted black and placed around a window?
Maybe some type of on-line paint/siding simulator that you can down load your picture, and play with colors. You should re-post after it's done with before and after photos.

With all the great paint products on the market today, there should be a way to paint out the green windows. Seems like that is what is restricting you. I would talk to some window mfgs. and paint companies to see what could be done

If green is a color you are unhappy with, should you then be going with a green door? Perhaps a wood grain door or something contemporary to go with the house color would be better and would down play the green color.

Basically you are right, but as far as there is a solution, I would try to stick on the green.
