problems with accessing Gardenweb.com

For the last 2 days I've been having problems with the forum. When I get on gardenweb there is a statement that reads: Gardenweb.com is not responding due to a long running script. I can select stop script and then get on the forum, but I have to go thru this long process each time I move from forum to forum. Any idea what's going on with this? I don't know if it's my computer or Gardenweb. Hope someone can help. Thanks, Luke

I have the same problem. I haven't tried rebooting the computer yet but we'll see.

I have been coming to this forum for a more than a year now and this has never happened before. Very irritating!

It's probably from the ads, have you considered an ad blocker?

Also, this system being so old and possibly abandoned, doesn't help since it was made generations ago.

I've been having the same problem. It started Monday. I don't know why the ads would suddenly start doing this. I've not seen this before anywhere and it doesn't happen on any other websites that I've been on.

It is a webpage coding/scripting problem originating at gardenWeb. Rebooting your computer will not help. Using certain browsers on certain operating systems or using tablets or mobile devices may help.

"Tamara" of gardenWeb is working on the problem.

The ads could be the source since garden web is simply allowing them to show up on the page, they don't write them or host them.

I haven't been bothered yet, and I check the pages multiple times a day on my days off. I'm using Firefox with a Linux (Ubuntu) system. Just tried it on my wife's Windows (Vista Home Premium) system with Firefox with no problems.

The people over on the computer forum are great. They've helped me numerous times.

also had problems with Firefox; buttons for "log-in" amd "post a follow-up" weren't working.

Used Internet Explorer and everything worked fine. IE did give a message that it was blocking pop-ups.

Rather than simply showing up on the page, ads have to be HTML-coded to appear on a certain part of the browser window.

These web pages are also highly scripted, reaching out to various other servers that dish up the ads. When your browser status bar is displaying "waiting for..." or "transferring data from...", that is likely a script at work.

Technicians at gardenWeb write the code and script. Advertisers merely submit their graphics and text.

Incessant browser upgrade versions and the moving target of coding standards make designing web pages more art than science.
