Initial Apricot pruning

I just finished planting an order of bareroot fruit trees. After planting them, I pruned them all back and it seemed fairly straight forward, with one exception. My apricot trees (northern varieties: scout and morden 604) have me stumped.

The trees have 2 or 3 equally strong branches starting from about 1 inch above ground. These brances are well spaced apart already (not competing for central leader). Should I prune back to only 1 branch or is it ok to have an open vase type structure starting so low to the ground?

I've read that apricots grow slowly here so I don't want to prune to aggressively if I don't have to. I can post pictures if it would help.

Thanks!

Chris
