Help with tufa sticking to wood form

I made a wooden mold for a Japenese lantern. The lightbox part is what is giving me problems. The tufa won't release from the wood frame. I have an outer frame that I clamp together against an inner frame. The outer frame has 9 small cubes nailed to all four sides. I wait more than 24 hours but when I unmold it, it won't release and everything has to be broken to get it a part. I have tried petroleum jelly and silicone release spray but nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep the tufa from sticking to the wood. If I paint the inner frame withe high gloss paint, will it help the unmolding process.

Thanks all,
