Paint won't hold up mixed into any cement mix. If you do a search there are some great threads on paint, stain, dye stain, dyes, pigments, etc.

Sometimes you just have to try it yourself. I beleive I had posted some recommendations in a previous post on using stain and you replied that you liked the cheap craft paint cause worked so well. I have learned much from trial and error and the paint is ok on concrete leaves, but I do not like the look of paint on the hyperfua - but that is just me.
There is lots of old posts - as Billie suggested on color.
I will recommend you read and see what you like.
I like to use the concrete dye - from Davis ,It is powder and it is mixed right in wet hypertufa and the color is through out the entire mix. But I am still testing other colors - I just purcahed some stain that is applied to the outside - lots of great colors - will keep you posted

I have never had a problem using wood stain for hypertufa. I've had these ginger pots for quite a while and they still retain the walnut stain I applied quite some time ago. I like wood stain because, unlike paint or dye, it leaves a more natural finish to the primitive stone nature of hypertufa. There's lots of colors, including the new water-based stains. They're fun to mix and match. For a top coat, I always finish with Behr's Wet Look Sealer. Unfortunately, it's gone up to about $25 a gallon, but for me, it's the only brand worth it, and I've tried a few.

Sorry I asked a question that had already been asked. I will not do it again. I have read nearly every thread posted here so it isn't because I haven't read all the information. I didn't recall anyone saying that if you use paint in the mix it would fade.

Now Kathy, don't be pouting. No one said you can't ask questions. It's just that people forget to use the search feature and there's some great information out there. Threads do disappear so maybe the information has gone into the great beyond. Some people use to keep an eye on threads that had a lot of great information and would "bump" them up so they wouldn't disappear. I don't know if that still happens. I know on the "Gallery" side of this forum we only had room for 2 pages of pictures. Billie
