plantman56, I think this sounds like a great idea! definitely include the container, so they don't try something larger and run out of mix, also I would add a pair of rubber gloves and a mask for mixing-hey they would think you are the master of the trade! Wendy

Mike, You and I e-talked about this briefly (last year), regarding selling at classes. I never tried selling it other than classes but at classes it always sells out.
You could make smaller mortar mix bags and sell for leaf castings too.
Make sure you get that disclaimer in there about "not responsible for stupidity". Billie

I did use your idea for the leaf class. All ingredients in 1gal zip lock - just add water . It works great.
It is getting cold and I am trying to plan for next spring. Have two classes set up already and want to add a little extra. Pre bagged ingredients for sell. I think it would be a good item and this way each person could make more at home. I agree with the instructions that include the disclaimer.
Also the mask and gloves are good idea too - "tufaKit"

Check out Ebay. Someone there sells it pre-measured (peat and perlite - sand whatever and separatly bag the portland, -- ingredients are bagged separatly along with instructions on how to mix it.

I would be concerned about pre-mixing into 1 bag though....if your sand or even the peat is damp, it can ruin the portland and get "chunky" in the bag...especially if they don't use it right away.

Marcia, That's a great idea about bagging separately if there's a concern about the material being damp. I did look at the ebay seller that you referenced but didn't see anything bagged separately except the soil conditioner that the seller also has for sale. Billie

Mike, I agree with Marcia also, might be a good idea to put the dry cement in a different bag. Just recently I mixed up a plastic container of dry ingredients for an item, put the top over the leftovers, next day when I went to use the lid was full of condensation. The only other solution I can think of would be to let the peat completely dry out-that could take a lot of time but would work.-Wendy

Yes - the seperate bags is a good idea. Checked out the ebay site. Good description. I do not think I want to make a production of this, just make it easier for the people that come to class.
