No. These are all planted from tubers so no crossing is involved. Irish potatoes rarely seed and all the common ones are hybrids anyway. If they flower, crosspollination is possible in the seeds. There are some true seed cultivars now on the market, but they are still rare.

Agree - don't know how or why your golds turned up "red" but it isn't dues to any cross pollinating. ;)

or! and this would be my guess, if I had planted them, you have at some point mixed up your rows? nothing I have planted has turned out the be what it should have been! except my peas and carrots.
really is it that difficult to grow carrots? I have had about 6, 2 inch long carrots this year from numerious plantings in various beds, from various companies and 4 different varieties!
I have adopted my tough love approach for the fall and just dumped a load of seeds in a space and they can do their own thing!

Potatoes can be cross-pollinated if you plant the seeds.
Only the seeds then will carry the genetic characteristics of cross pollination and it will only show if planted.
I would think that thats how you can develop a new hybrid.
tubers are just inground leaves.
