REED Avocado Tree Help

Hello All,

Hoping to get some immediate help here with my reed avocado.

I have yet to plant them due to some recently high temperatures here in Carlsbad California (San Diego).

As you can see in the picture the hass on the left is doing excellent and the reed on the right is struggling loosing lots of leaves and turning yellow. Fruit is still holding on but this tree has me worried.

Couple weeks back we had temps in the 90's and the nursery told me to water it very often twice a day even if the top soil turned dry. My thinking is i was watering way to much an have backed off to about 2-3 times a week.

Any advice on helping me saving this tree. Sorry if i am in the wrong area to post this but looking for some quick help.

sd....this is so funny you posted this thread! I was going to post about a similar dilemna with my Reed on another site. haha. Both my 3 year old Reed in the ground, and my newly grafted 5 gallon tree from last year....are way behind all my other avocados. I have like 18 trees and 15 varieties...so I have a lot of diversity to compare. For some reason these Reeds are really slow to get going in the Spring. They still look rough because they have dropped their old leaves and not replaced them yet. There may be some strange relationship with how sensitive these are to frosts...I don't know. No worries...these Reeds are really good to eat! PM me if you come up with anything....

Yeah very odd. The Hass and reed are even on the same watering cycle. Don't understand what Happend here. I'll let you know if there are improvements. I'm going to back off on watering a little more.

Did you plan to keep them in the planters? Or how long should they stay in planter before being transferred in the ground?
