Maybe they somehow mixed it up with Santa Rosa plum -- thats what it looks like (a Japanese plum of some sort).

I can't tell exactly how you did that graft, from the picture it looks like there is a chance that the shoot is not from the scion. I doubt it, but thought it was worth mentioning just in case.

Sandra Rose is definately a sweet cherry, and I planted one myself this spring on Gisela 6. Sandra Rose is being offered frequently this season as a substitute for Black Gold, which apparently suffered crop failure. In fact, Sandra Rose, from Summerland, may turn out to be just as good or better. Like Scott, I find the look of the graft to be a little confusing, since growth is starting so low on the scion. But I don't see how it could be from the lower stock, since there shouldn't be a bud there.

It should be easy to tell if it is cherry growth as soon as the leaves mature a little more, since the cherry leaves would normally be substantially larger than most plums. I planted a couple of Japanese plums simultaneously with the Sandra Rose cherry, and the cherry leaves are easy to distinguish for that reason.

Konrad: That's clearly a Japanese plum. They are the only fruit that has the curled under leaf margins on a partially expanded leaf. That characteristic is clearly seen on the upper leaf that is on the left side. Sweet cherry leaves don't curl under like that. You were right to think the wood looks like a plum.

As the leafs grow older, even me should know the difference..LOL
