How do you choose the ideal backsplash?

I have blonde cabinets, beige floor tiles and a deep Venetian gold granite countertop. I cannot decide on a backsplash that compliments all. I am tempted to choose a dark wood-look but afraid to step out! Stainless appliances.

Here are a few photos of kitchens with Venetian gold granite counters, so you can see some examples of back splashes other people have chosen. It's hard to give more specific advice without a photo of your kitchen cabinets, flooring, etc.

I had the same colors in my last kitchen, and I put mosaic tiles that were all different textures and all different black tones there was ceramic squares glass ones marble ones etc seems busy but isn't because all in black, go to a tile place and borrow samples and try. good luck oh and black glass on its own you would have to do everyday and it will go streaky, good luck

Sounds brave and very neat. Guess I'm too timid. You see so many variations but to commit has been tough. Thanks for your suggestion.

When faced with the "dilemma", I revert to other areas to tie in for some continuity. Take the fireplace stone/tile or the coffee table material for example. Get samples and keep looking, chances are 50sf of tile can be found locally and you can typically pick it up the day before you need it. But if it's super tight time frame do it earlier!

Have to say I think betsy's "tempo bamboo mosaic" is stunning. I'd pick that one in a minute.

Have the same prob, gold travertine floors w/black diamond insets, maple cabs, wavey gold granite countertops w/same backsplash. Everything blended together. Needed something to make statement. Cut out a large section of the back splash over the range, had tile man cut into 6-inch squares, added some 2.5 inch black granite squares. Reinstalled everything into a diagonal pattern, framed all around w/narrow strip of black granite. Relatively inexpensive, really gave it some pop.

It appears you have a lot of beige going on in the kitchen. It seems that darker, or bold, or colorful backsplash is called for. We re-did our kitchen, and just had them paint the backsplash area until I could decide what I wanted. It took three years, but worth it. Live with your kitchen for a while, to see what hits you.

With the light cabinets you have I would go more bold with some darker colors . I have auburn glaze cabinets and what is called golden taupe lots of creams , rust dark dark brown and greys its beautiful so for me going with a creamy rustica travertine once its sealed it will be a deeper cream sorta golden cream. Granite has lot of flow to it and beautiful that I don't want to over state it. Just want to be able to clean it. We have paint right now and we have to be so careful as far as splash I can't wait till its installed.. Good luck

I have the same dilemma - NVG counters (the dark tone), but with white cabinets and black appliance. I actually like the idea of black tiles for the backsplash. We're only doing the backsplash behind the stove and wall-mounted range hood, so black might be fun!

I have the same granite but called Colonial Gold (and there is almost no gold in it - more of a rust color. I have cherry cabinets in Autumn with a brown glaze. For the life of me I have no clear idea of what to do with the backsplash. My floor is 20x20 Italian porcelain from a "roc" collection with grey, cream, rusty brown colors. They do make that floor tile in a mosaic (1x3) but I think it might be overwhelming but really like it. Any ideas?
