Jon your artichokes are beautiful. I posted artichoke pics in the recent past (spring). We harvested and ate a few. I will try posting a picture of their present state later in the weekend.

Basically there is a growth multiplication from the same root stock. Not all specimens do that. Only the really healthy successful ones. One I though was history just showed me some sprouts, so they can multiply from the same root as well. The other ones had pups before they were done flowering. One of them is particularly tasty, so I would like to multiply it.

I cut many flowers to prevent the seed spread and artichokes all over the yard.

I was wondering if you get enough artichokes to preserve and how do you preserve them. This year we got lots to eat, but not enough to preserve. The artichokes are recent so I expect a few more next season.

This is only my second year gardening, and my artichokes were very prolific, but I have WAY TOO MANY FRIENDS, to ever have any extra Artichokes, so there will never be any to preserve, but back to your original question, all of the new off-shoots can be utilized to start new plants (that is actually a fantastic way of making sure you are getting the exact clones you want", around December to Jan, cut them down to about 6" off of the ground and then pull them all out of the ground, then cut off as many off-shoots as you want and make sure you cut them with some roots on each piece, as the plants are divided, they are exact clones and will then produce more off shoots each and every year,at least every four or five years you should do this to your plants to keep them propagating and prolific.
