Peppers still producing

I don't have a whole lot of experience with peppers - usually just a couple of plants each year. Here in Massachusetts, I've always considered them a hot weather (for us) crop. This year I have about eight plants, and here in October I still have a crop on the plants. The three hot weeks of July aborted all the flowers, but they they started up flowering again in August. So I had one flush of peppers from earlier in the summer, and another after the heat wave. This batch is actually bigger than the first one. Do peppers typically last this long? I have multiple plants with three or more fruit on them, and they're still going strong, though none of the bell peppers are changing color.
