Mustard greens, like most greens, are a favorite vegetable of mine. This year I chose Green Wave mustard, which was very good. I let some of it make seed, by which time it was shoulder high. It produced thousands of small yellow flowers which attracted honey bees more than anything else in my garden. Everything else was visited by bumble bees. I may grow a larger crop next year to benefit the honey bees.

Thanks, Jimster. That's great to hear about the honeybees.

Ours disappeared after the mesquite bloom finished and most of our pollination was done by carpenter bees, which look like solid black bumble bees. They fell down on their squash tending job, though.

I'll be planting much more mustard next spring. It would be nice if I could get it to crowd out the invasive Sahara Mustard that takes over in the uncultivated places!

Bees really seem to love brassicas in my garden, too. I've seen them pass up squash and cucumber blossoms to head for bok choy and broccoli plants that have blossomed. I've been amazed at how tall some of these plants can get when they bolt. A little fist-size head of broccoli ended up being about three feet tall.
