Follow Scott's Annual Program or this article?

I have a small yard and I basically follow Scott's 4 step annual program and I have green grass for the most, smoe crabgrass and hardly any weeds. During the summer drought I water at times, but not much. In the fall I aerate, in the Spring I lightly rake the dead grass, cut my lawn and start fertilizing.

According to this article fertilizing twice a year is plenty and I should add "Top dressing" - compost to my lawn whenever I feel something is wrong with it....I have never used compost, should I? Isn't what's in the Scott's fertilizer good enough?
