To propagate it you must take a cutting and graft it to another apple tree, as apples do not produce true to seed and instead you'd get a sour dud.

When I was a boy,I'm now 78, my Uncle's farm in Ilion, NY had a PomSweet Apple tree and the apples were large, yellow and delicously sweet.

I've tried to find these in various towns/states and no one had heard of such an apple.

So good luck with saving the tree, also save some apple seeds and plant your own trees.

My Mother is 92 years old and remembers the Palm Sweet Apples from Pompey NY. I've seen your discussion on here about them. Who else remembers them?

We had one palm sweet tree in our old oechard. my favorite apple. can’t get them anywhere these days. l’m 75 just to give you an idea of the time.

My dad remember theae apple from when he was a kid. He is 72 years old and said they are the best apples he has ever had. I would love to be able to get my hand on some seed to see if I can start a tree..

My brother and I grew up in Little Falls, NY and definitely remember palm sweet apples. We have been trying to locate a source. We are no longer in the NY area and have never heard of them outside that area of central NY. Do they still exist? Allen

I believe the tree in question is officially called Pomme Grise. It is a very old variety, was grown by Jefferson at Monticello and was a staple of old New England orchards. They have a yellow flesh and are listed as being very sweet, juicy and aromatic.

I just want to clarify that planting the seeds of one of these will not result in a similar tree.. All common apple types are hybrids and can only be propagated clonally. Seeds will produce a tree that may or may not look or taste anything like the parent. Apples are propagated by grafted cuttings, which you can do if you have access to an original Pomme Grise tree. There are also a few websites listed as still growing this variety as well.
