The dimensions of the lumber

What type of "lumber" did you use to make the frames...regular hardwood or mdf? What's the dimensional thickness of the lumber used...1/2", 5/8 or 3/4"?

    the trim is hardwood and is 4"W x 3/4" thick but you could use MDF, although, I prefer wood
