yard bug/won't run

I hav a yardbug by yardman mtd. 8.5hp. model #13B325401. serial #4A059I10190. mower has been sittin for 3yrs. full tank of gas, changed oil, replaced fuel filter replaced battery and cleaned air filter. i am gettin a spark so the plug is good. i sprayed WD40 into the cylinder head reconnected spark plug and turned it over. it ran for about 5 seconds, then died. i'm thinkin it might b the carb. my next step will b to clean the carburator. any other advice would b helpful. thanks.....

follow-up. fuel going from fuel filter to float bowl. so, whats causing fuel from not reaching the carb. could it b a dirty needle valve.

Yes, clean the carb.
Since you asked for suggestions oil the forward and reverse cables, You may have to get the steering cover off to do this.The cables actually work against each other to get the forward and reverse. WD40 will work fine.
Nice little machine, but the steering was always jittery.

good news. took carb off and cleaned it. put it back together, and its been running great since.
