newbie needs advice

Last year I bought my first phal, a rosy pink color. After it was finished flowering, I let the stalk die down and then cut it off. Now I went and bought 2 more phals that HD was selling at a reduced price because they weren't flowering. (The others they had there were either white or yellow. Can't wait to see what these will be!) After flowering I will again let the stalk die down and then cut it off. Questions: Am I doing the right thing? Do I have to give them a rest period at a cooler temp. for a while before I start fertilizing? I read somewhere that they don't like direct sunlight. I keep mine in bright, indirect light. Is that o.k.? Thanks for any advice. Marg
