did my worms drown?

Had a landscaper clear two five foot by eighteen foot areas of scraggly evergreen bushes and miscellaneous weeds then he added about two inches of compost. Then it rrained for six days stright. After drying out for two days I dug in the compost about eight worms for an five foot by eighteen foot area did they drown?

They're accustomed to rain. They'll stake care of themselves.

Like us earthworms need to breath, they need air. If the soil becomes too saturated with water so little or no air is in that soil those earthworms will move which is why often after a heavy rain you will see them crawling about on the surface.
