Krista, your rose is gorgeous! I too have this rose which is about the same age as yours, but for some reason mine doesn't have the beautiful full, swirled pattern as yours. Since we've been experiencing a heat wave I wonder whether that could be the reason for the difference. I hope mine will be as pretty as yours in the fall when the weather cools down.

Ingrid, thank you. Yes, it could be that the cooler weather brings out more petals. It's interesting to compare differences in a rose, with different zones/ climates.

My, my Krista, how I wish I could grow some of those beautiful Austins. It reminds me so much of Madame Dore, the bourbon I have but I'm sure the blooms are much larger and the fragrance more intense.

Thank you, Joe. It's been compact so far, a 2 X 2 shrub, but recently threw a 3 1/2 foot tall cane, so I'm uncertain as to what its height will be once it matures. (it's a two year old plant now.) I think it will be about 2 1/2 to 3 feet tall, and somewhat less wide.

I'm glad yours is nice Krista. Mine when the weather gets hot produces ridiculously small blooms. I'm not sure that I want to keep it.

That's too bad Pam... it does seem to like a cold zone... The Mayflower is an Austin where I've noticed that the blooms are smaller in late summer, but as I recall its blooms are not that big in June either...

You have some lovely roses, whose blooms I have not heretofore seen, and they are beautiful. It is no wonder my garden is so paltry, as I have no beautiful roses like yours.

Bumping this WAY up, because I can't seem to find a lot about 'Bishop's Castle' in cold zones. Krista, do you still grow 'Bishop's Castle'? I remember your lovely pink roses from last year, but I don't think BC was one of them.

This thread brings back memories. I was planning a vacation to take my Mom along the Hudson River and through the Catskill Mountains in September of that year.

I still grow Bishop's Castle, and love it. It's about 3 feet tall, good repeat and wonderfully fragrant blooms.

Julie, I'm sorry for the loss of your Mother. The vacation memories are special. My mom does not live in New York anymore, but loves it here. We've had many wonderful trips over the years. Niagara Falls was one of her favorites.

That's good to hear that Geoff Hamilton has been doing well for you. I have two of them, I like them very much. They are hardy and reliable.

BTW, I did end up ordering Bishop's Castle. I hope mine looks like yours.
