Hi,

I googled the plant as I was curious. The page says its used over cuts and bruises. But also says most parts are highly toxic.

My mother and grandmother used it on me when I was very young, I'm assuming they didn't know about the toxicity of it. We only used small pieces of the greens.

As I recall if you a sliver and put it on overnight it would "pull" the sliver out, which was great when you were a kid. Also worked the same if you got a burr broken off under the skin. My son is Autistic and screams bloody murder if I try to pull a sliver out with tweezers, which is what made me remember this home remedy from my childhood.

We also have a genetic blood disorder (from my grandmother's side) that causes us to bruise VERY easily. I have the legs of an 8 year old, all battered and bruised. That could be another reason she had this plant.

I sure wish she was still around so I could talk to her about this. It's the little things.

Drimia maritima might be what you are looking for

Drimia maritima, formerly Ornithogalum maritimum, and Ornithogalum caudatum, now Albuca bracteata, are closely related species in the tribe Scilloideae of the family Asparagaceae. They were previously in the family Lilaceae. Both species have medicinal properties.
