Facebook Pages

Something new in Old Roses . . .

Our wonderful webmistress has created Facebook pages for both the local GOLD COAST HERITAGE ROSES GROUP, and the national HERITAGE ROSES GROUP.

I am starting to upload albums of little-known roses, so I hope there'll always be new stuff to see.

I hope you'll pay us a visit, "LIKE" us, and drop by regularly.

Sorry, Jeri....I canceled my Facebook account quite a while ago. But good luck with it, those entities are well worth investing in.

    Done.

I really understand, Paul. I am shameless, however, when it comes to letting people know about HRG. :-)

ahem, my farcebook account (set up by daughter, in attempt to cure misanthropic tendencies) lasted for 3 weeks - closed in fury after same daughter, frustrated at overall lack of interest, posted as an imaginary (and incendiary) me including uploading a terrible picture of me waving an onion hoe in rage (at her, no doubt). I was also startled to find I had heaps of 'friends' who I had never heard of. Daughter was having a wonderful time, posting about my 'hobbies' (cat stuffing, erotic gardening, nude mountaineering and bog diving) Never again - don't Twit either.

    LOL Camps!

Nude Mountaineering! Cat Stuffing....hehe...you do have to enjoy her sense of humor!

I think like a shovel, Facebook is a tool, it is up to you to decide how you want to use it. Some post every detail of their boring lives and others use it to update friends or promote their business.

I enjoy quite a few gardeners updates and blogs that I find via Facebook.

    "liked" them both :)

Dang, Camp! I'm sorry I missed that one! LOL! Kim

Camps, how OLD was your daughter when this happened??? It's funny now, but you must have been ready to kill her at the time!

    Thanks, Tammy!

Jeri and Kippy - I have been plunged into confusion - I cancelled FB before I got to check out gardening groups and now wonder if I am missing out on useful stuff.
As for wayward daughter - this was only a couple of years ago - she would have been 25 or so. No matter - a mum always has the psychological edge - and possession of a great number of embarrassing photos from infancy onwards, many of which started to appear prominently about the house during her friend's visits.....hard copies too, not easily banished to outer cyberspace, Ha!

Camps, if you sat and looked at my fb page, you would see posts from relatives, school friends, dog forum friends, photographer friends and then the "info and ads"

I follow a lot of garden companies, writes and botanical gardens. I enjoy admiring what they are doing even if it is something I can't grow or read. Plus the local and travel updates are interesting. There are a lot of companies that advertise, but I choose to either look or skip.

I tend to post only generic or less personal things. I skip the political/religious stuff-kind of hard since I went to church school...lol

I enjoy connecting with my friends and seeing what they are up too. No drunken party photos on my pages, cause if that is how that person lives, we have different lifestyles and that is not what I want to see. I also "hid" several people that are in to personal dramas-I deal with way too much of that at work so not about to add that in for fun.

Like I said, you can use it as a tool and decide how you want to work with it

    You're right, Kippy.

If you sat and looked at my FB page, you would for the most part see roses and dogs.

I can become seduced into some political discussion, but I try to keep that minimal -- and like you, I've hidden or blocked a few people, for similar reasons.

FB has very little information from me. I figger, they don't NEED to know my B'day, or where I live, or where I went to school. It's none of their bid'ness.

And I love that we can make FB pages like the two we've set up, for Old Roses.

FB: I use it mainly to keep up with doings in the rose world and rose friends, and to promote the Ventura County Rose Society.

There are a smattering of relatives with whom I exchange a little information and a small community of people with whom I share political tendencies. (Election year commentary is mostly useless in all directions, IMO.) It is easier to unite on common first principles (civil rights or liberties rather than specific politics or politicians).

Old friends can be problematical; partially the reason that you are no longer active friends is because both of you have moved on either politically or socially or economically and these gaps are not easily bridged.

I find a general rule is that with the younger generation, neither approval or comment is necessary, but criticism is totally out of line. And I confess I don't like being marketed.
