It is a "Cattleya" hybrid and it will be almost impossible to find the name.

Not a Dendrobium. As Arthur says, probably a Cattleya hybrid. Where did you get the "hard cane" idea? - Ian.

Ok, I'm not an orchid professor, so I may be wrong on the type, I do have 12 or so Blc. Mount Hood 'Mary'. I can drop a picture of the entire plant in my next post, but compared to my other Catts, this plant has log, thin p-bulbs that reach 24" - 36" in height with two leaves at the top. The leaves look much rounder and thicker than my Catts. Picture to follow..

One of the orchids used in the breeding of "cattleya" hybrids is Cattleya bowringiana. It has the plant form you describe.

I have "cattleya" in quotes because some hybrids look like a Cattleya but have no
Cattleya ancestors.

Have a look at the thumb nails. Plant form of those hybrids is just as varied as the flowers.

Here is a link that might be useful: Laeliinae subtribe set

Thanks for all the info...below is a picture of the orchid in question...I had never seen bi foliate hybrid Catts before so I was stumped...
