Try to gently uncurl it but be prepared for it to break off if you tug to hard. I recently lost a spike on a mount with lots of basal keikis and it snapped off. I didn't worry about it because I had several other spikes.

About a week later, the broken spike continued to grow. Phals are tough and determined to bloom when it is time.

If you have to choose between cutting the leaf and the spike then I know which I would choose. It shouldn't be necessary to do either, however. Gently tease the spike away from the leaf with your fingers. I'm sure you can do it...Then use the leaf as a support. Some people use a stick to straighten out a spike, but I wouldn't bother.

i find being patient and very gentle with a stuck spike works well. having said that i have used more extreme measures when i'm in the mood to control, lol. i have used spring type clothes pins to redirect the offending leaf, and regularly use manicure scissors to trim plant material that may be restricting spike growth. but beware, as others have offered too much fussing may result in a broken spike.they can be as unforgiving as a spun sugar thread! good luck.

If you elect to massage the spike, do it before you water the plant. Don't try to do it when the spike is rigid and crispy with water. Turgid?
