Assuming EDPM pond liner, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. It would be useful to have zone, sun/shade, soil, and pond size.

I can't remember what type of liner I used but it was one of the better quality ones on the market but not the most expensive, and I lined the hole with sand, newspaper and underlay fabric first. I am in the midlands UK, the pond is about 2m x1.5m, in the sun for most of the day (although the climber would get afternoon shade from the fence) and the soil is the nice crumbly black stuff near the surface and some clay deeper down.
