The limestone will stain if you spill on it and don't wipe it up right away - especially lemon or wine. Some people consider that part of the "patina", some people are bothered by imperfection.

Many thanks. We tested unsealed azule with lemon juice and vinegar, which left pretty intense white stains. Is yours sealed, oiled or waxed? If so, what product did you use?

The installer put their typical sealer on it which helps some, but I don't like using it because even though it is water-based it has formaldehyde in it. I researched some other sealers and found a non-toxic one to test but it when dry it has a sticky shiny look. So, no good solution. Would love to hear one!

I love this kitchen. It is amazing. And I don't (or didn't) think I would ever like red cabinets! This kitchen would lift my spirits daily...even on a rainy Monday. I think soapstone counters would work, too, wouldn't they? That's what I have in my kitchen and they are basically impervious to stain and abuse. I sometimes "pretty" them up with an application of mineral oil. End up looking like black marble.
