One thing you might do is go to Dave's Garden and do a "PlantFiles" search for plants that do well in your area (by city name or zip). Then you can pick out annuals you like, which suit your conditions.

I'm Denise from Long Island, nice to meet you! Why not plant the begonia's and impatiens again since they are so pretty and did so well?

Maybe you can choose different colors this year as impatiens come in 4 different colors. You also might want to consider Phlox (not the creeping phlox), though I am not sure how they do in Shade.

If you plan on living there for more years to come, a Hosta would be nice and that plant comes back every year. There are different varieties of Hosta's, I like the ones that have Purple flower spikes in the center.

My mother lives on Long Island, near Smith Point Beach. Everything she puts in the ground thrives and flourishes. Because her soil is sandy, she does have to water daily.
