I think the Stihl FS55 is about that price. I think the closest equivalent echo with straight shaft is a 210. If I remember correctly the 210 is a little better quality than the FS55. In any case those are two good models. Shindaiwa and Tanaka make good trimmers too, but are less widely available. I would look at the FS55 price and stay in the price range (I think ~$240). I personally stay away from Ryobi, Craftsman, etc. Some have luck with them, but you'll find alot more complaints than with the above models.

I don't care for the FS55 because of vibration but it is probably one of the best in that price range. Consider switching to the optional Auto-cut 25-2C head, the standard 25-2 head is a pain to load.

canguy, I thought echo used to make a straight shaft that was a little better than the 55 and same price or lower (180 or something like that?). What others in that range can you think of?

Yes the Echo SRM210 straight shaft. Or the Husqvarna 125 are good. Make sure get the tap advanced head.

masiman, the Echo SRM210 is IMHO a much better unit but is priced a little higher here than the FS55. Shindaiwa also makes some sweet trimmers in their HomePro series but again, the quality and performance costs a little more.

I have an Excho GT 2000 which has served my well. I think it is around that price range. My sister also has one and has had good luck with it.

He want a straight shaft. the current model is Echo GT200. It is $169 in OSH and I thing in HD. It has the same good engine as the SRM210, just curved shaft and you have to load the string one at a time.

My Echo SRM210 has been a real champ......6 years and no issues. Always starts and runs, holds lots of string, and you don't need an engineering degree to reload it.
