One of our flower gardens is located on a side yard opposite the nearest hose bibb. Rather than wrestling with a long hose each day, I decided to install a permanent water line adjacent to the garden - easier than you may think and cheaper than buying an automatic 150' hose retracting device (if there is such a thing).

After digging a shallow trench, install and cover a length of flexible black polypipe, or rigid PVC, from a Y-fitting at an existing water bibb. The other end can be a simple standpipe and garden spigot - mounted to a freestanding PT post with a hose bracket - accommodating a length of garden hose. Elbows with threaded nipples will handle the two transitions and flex pipe bends around any obstructions.

I disconnect the line from the water system before winter sets in and blow out any standing water to prevent freezing. This process is not unlike installing a lawn irrigation system, but is a very simple and inexpensive DIY project anyone can do.
