pruning a hickory tree

i have a large shagbark hickory in my back yard. it needs

a bit of pruning work. last year a limb split on me and i was able to prune it with a polesaw so it didn't block the back door, but the split it still there, there are also some dead snags up higher in the tree that need to come down.

access for a a truck with a basket is limited, but possible

but last time they were here (10yrs+)they damaged the drive way and weren't able to get much more than 2/3rd the way into the tree. does this mean i'll need someone to climb the tree? what are the dangers for this? (i'm not climbing--

i'm really more concerned about the tree, i expect the climber to be a pro with safety equipment/insurance)

are there any particular concerns when trimming/pruning a hickory? i was told that you need to take the whole branch off as it will just die back any how.

advice and comments welcomed, but i usually don't surf this forum, so thank you in advance.

on the chance that this tree is going into a decline, i've started a new hickory about 15 feet away from it (thats where it came up). Last summer it was just about 20 feet tall with no branching and about 1 inch diameter. It leans a bit towards the sun (about 10-15 degrees) which i'd like to straighten/train.
