Those tillers were made in big bunches, back when, and whatever engine was in vogue at the time it was installed, thats what was put on it. If thats the original engine, its probably non electronic! You can buy an electronic ignition for it, i'm quite sure. Someone on this forum might have a used one.
HH60 usually meant 6 h.p. I had an older Troy tiller, and it had the HH60 engine on it, and i know it was 6 h.p., and it had point type ignition. None the less, it ran good with old style ignition, and the man i sold it to says its still running great, and i sold it 4 years ago. It was used when i got it. You might say the older troy tillers were "timeless" as they kept going and going and going, with astute care!
Now, if you opt for a new engine, it will probably have an aluminum block. The support for the engine mount bolts to the alum. case(block), so you might have to make an L-shaped plate to bolt on for the engine to be supported by it, along with the 4 mounting bolts! This because the weight of the engine may tear out the threads in the block. The old engine was probably cast iron, unless it was changed. I know mine wasn't.

Thanks Rusty, its a cast iron engine for sure, 6hp. I'm not looking to change it just yet. It runs good so far. I was just thinking that electric ignition became "standard" sometime before 1985. I've changed engine oil, transmission gear oil, and the oil in the tiller assembly, and the tine shaft seals. Cleaned the carb and air filter. Remarkably good overall condition. The best part, it only cost me $75. I don't mind one bit to spend some money on it. REJ2.

I got mine in a trade! A man stopped in one day and said he had a bunch of old garden machinery he'd like to trade for 2 good running push lawn mowers. So, i went to see the machinery. The Troy tiller, a Snapper high-vac mower, and 2 very worn out push mowers! I took two very nice used mowers to him, and brought back the other things mentioned above. The tiller needed a con rod, the high vac needed a bath, and the two mowers got a trip to the scrap yard.

Remove the shroud from the engine. If the coil is outside the flywheel, it is electronic ignition. If under the flywheel, it is points/condenser ignition.

Does anyone know where I might get a carburetor for the hh60? Or where I can get the part number. It is a 1984 model and the model # appears to be TC 5115H.

HH60 is a Heavy duty/ Horizontal shaft, engine with points and condeser,if your engine has electronic ignition I don't beleive it is an HH60,the old engine has been replaced with a new engine.....there is no way to my knowledge a way of installing an external coil on an ole HH60 block....your rewind shroud may just have the orininal ID numbers ,and the main block could have been changed ....Carbs should still be avaiablr for these engines,but they are pricey...

Plenty of HH60 motors with electronic ignition, mine has it. Motor was discontinued in 1994 according to my research, but electronic ignition was available in 1987 and I would suspect a few years prior to that. T- Man was able to identify manufacture year of my motor on another forum. Parts manual for my tiller dated 1987 shows a HH60 motor specificly listed with electronic ignition. REJ2.

Is it possible to replace a flywheel and internal magento/stator/coil with an external electronic system for an HH60105103F? A magnet came lose and trashed the stator assy. and there are no replacements to be found. Any help would be appreciated.
