The 'Courageous' Climbing Rose

I purchased this three years ago from Heirloom. I had never seen those small rose bands before, & thought nothing good would happen. This year it's about 4 feet tall, with the most lovely red roses & the most delicious scent. I love my Dublin Bay, but considering its lack of scent, think I'm going to prefer this one. I'm planning on ordering at least three more of Courageous.

It was named to honor the RAF & US Army Air Corp flyers of WWII.

Thought I'd mention it here as I dont remember seeing anything on it at this forum before.

Thanks for mentioning this rose---My favorite uncle was in the US Airforce stationed in England during WW2----It is a beautiful rose and a nice tribute to all those brave men.
    Where did you get yours?

OOOps ---sorry I just noticed where you purchased yours.
On HMF they call it a shrub---is yours a climber?

    Good luck with this beauty

According to Heirloom, they consider it a climber, with height 6 to 8 feet plus. Looks more like a climber---so far---than a shrub to me...though perhaps short. Time will tell.

Hey kfca37, how's your Courageous doing now that some time has passed? Has it done much in the way of climbing? If so, how tall did it get? I have one that's still band-sized, and I'm trying to determine where it will go next season

Any updates on Heirloom’s Courageous Rose??? And how it’s growing for you? This one really caught my eye. I would live to see pics if anyone has them to share.

Not tremendously hardy however. I was able to pull one through a couple of winters in my zone 6 pocket but it wasn't robust and faded, even with a couple of tries.

I have this rose that I purchased from Heirloom three years ago. It's in the ground and has the loveliest long lasting fragrant blooms. However I only got one good flush last year. She is about four feet tall this year and somewhat slim.

I also have this tremendously vigorous rose that I purchased grafted from Menard's a few years ago as Robin Hood. The tag's picture was of the Hybrid Musk RH and it wasn't until I found this was an altenate name for Courageous that I could correctly ID it. Fabulous flower and fragrance. BS and poor repeat in a northern exposure. It grew very large with huge thorny arching canes at the front of a bed so I moved it on top of a stone wall in an equally poor spot. I wonder how it would do in good sun. I think Jim1961 also grew this at one time , but it had too much BS for him.

Mine had BS last year but I'm spraying this year!

I just received Courgeous from Heirloom and it's at least a gallon size. It is covered with thorns and prickles. OUCH. Because of this, I want to plant it in the back area, against a wall. This area does not get full sun, but the other two roses in this area are thriving. Has anyone planted this rose in a partially shaded area? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am in Ventura County, California, zone 10b.
