Dewalt 3800 pressure washer, open hole between pump and engine.

Hi, I just bought a dewalt 3800 pressure washer gx 270. iv pulled it out of the box and I'm unable to locate any information in the operation manual regarding a small hole that is completely open , it is between the pump and the engine. it sits on top and is clearly visible. Is this a pressure release opening? If anyone has any info I would appreciate it. Otherwise of to Home Depot tomorrow.thanks

These units use a AAA direct drive pump. Meaning that the pump bolts directly to the engine and is driven either by a hollow shaft or Lovejoy type coupler.

The hole in the top of the housing is for loosening/tightening a set screw on the engines output shaft in order to mount or remove the pump.

Is this hole suppose to be covered by any kind of bushing or plug? It seems like dirt would get down into the pump. If it does will it mess up the pump?
