It's ashamed you can't leave long enough at its present site to try layering it as well, by pulling a stem down and pegging it so that it would strike before you severed it. I'd be starting softwood or herbaceous cuttings right now, and keep taking them in various stages of growth. I've found that sometimes WHEN I take and stick cuttings spells success or failure more than what stage the cuttings are in and suspect it has a lot to do with the auxin levels, what vary widely over different seasons..

move it in fall ...

buy new plant.. hold in pot in shade until fall ...

if you insist on moving it now.. just as the heat of summer is hitting ... insure proper deep watering thru fall ... probably cant kill it if you want to ...

cut it back to a size sufficient to aid in digging and cutting ...

its an awful woody plant.. for rooting .. anything possible.. but my gut tells me its not an easy one ... google Dirrs maual on propagation of woody plants ... or get it from the library ...

Calliope - I was thinking of leaving it until next spring and just prune some of the growth off and at the same time tae some cuttings. For some reason I forgot about layering, so that does give me some time to do that as well.

Hi canadianplant,
Linked here is a story about a great group of volunteers from the Escalante Watershed. They are setting the example as to how to deal with RO.
