Kick My Butt

It's mid January and I've purchased potting mix plastic cups and have saved many milk containers...BUT NOTHING SOWED...

The last two seasons I've been well on my way by now, I haven't even looked in the catalogs for this year seeds yet. I know it's still early but I need a Good Swift Kick...

Rich, would you PLEASE START SOWING NOW!!!!!

    LOL

S'okay, rich - I haven't started yet, either. I'm going to do some this weekend, though. I have all I need (including time, finally), so I have no more excuses. I'll let you know what I sow, and maybe you can do one (two, three, a dozen?) and post what you sow too. Think potato chips: you can't do just one.

I haven't even bought any soil yet this season, but its ok, because I usually start in February anyway. I've got tons of catalogs sitting around that I've glanced at, but haven't decided on ordering anything. So don't worry, you have plenty of time, :)

Hehe...I saw the title of the post and said, "Yeah!"
But then Rich, you aren't on my list of people-whose-butt- I'd-like-to-kick... lol
What's your smallest batch you can sow? Start with that. Take a very small step that requires very small effort.

Usually, once you do that, it gets the ball rolling.

From Linda, you get no kick, just a nudge ;-)

I think you can, I think you can, I think you can.........

Still plenty of time Rich. I just did 6 containers this week. I usually only start in February, but got the itch and did some Eupatorium because it was my favourite winter sown plant last year and I've decided I'm planting a huge mass of them this year in an area presently called the 'lawn'.

It will come to you. There will soon be nothing to watch on TV due to the writer's strike and you will get one of those nor'easters which will drive you nuts. On that day, with a good cup of java, you'll start sowing. It's just a matter of time.

C'mon Rich -- we need more "zone 6'ers" in the big container count.

We are counting on you to have lots of sowing fun!!
    :)

It feels good to get those must-sow perennials out of the way and out in the yard. Next, I'm going to hit the perennials that I plan to give away at our spring and fall swaps. It will be nice to have those done and know that all I need to do is to plan the food I'm bringing to each event. (I'm thinking breakfast casserole to the spring swap)

    GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOG Richie poo!

LOL everyone and thanks for the inspiration your all too kind , no really your way too kind I truly need a good swift kick to get me going. And I agree with ya all that once I stat I'll be sowing away, its just getting started that's killing me.

I'll send you a boot in a boat from NS. Got a DH?? or a relative who can put it on and start swinging away? LOL!!

Ron, I don't even have soil!
We've had two "groups" of several days of freezing weather, wet percip (snow today!!) etc. and I've done nothing. Working on getting thru catalogs. Could have WS my own saved seed...

    Can commiserate!

I need kicking too. I did get my seeds together and make a list. I did plot out the garden (not that this has ANY relation to what I do for seedlings for some reason LOL!). I did order some more seeds I knew I wanted. (Only a couple left to go.) I did order seed-starting stuff as I am also doing some indoors as well as my winter sowing (in part to compare). What I haven't done, is make/find the containers for WS and make/find the soil/soilless for WS and put actual seeds into something and stick them outside. Picky picky! Not... quite... there. I'm falling behind! Oh nooooo!

Hey, I just started today! It's not too late.

    Rich,
I would kick you, but you would have to kick me back, lol.

    GGG,
You make me feel better knowing I at least bought dirt and even put it in the basement. : )

I don't suppose you are a 50 year old women going through THE CHANGE. That's my excuse. I don't feel like doing ANYTHING, even the things I enjoy.

Close your eyes, imagine this..... I'm standing behind you, you're are bending over, I'm drawing back my leg....you see it coming....there, I landed my manure covered boot right on your ....umm.... ummm..... toosh! Hope that helps. They say visualizing works.

When I have trouble getting started on something it often helps if I kick start by doing for others. While I might not make my own sowing a priority, and can really get excited about sowing a container of crepe mytrles for my sister in law. Inertia takes over from there.

Okay I started, but that's it for now still not quite ready to dive in.

Woo Hoo!!!!!!! Congrats on getting your first container done! That's a huge accomplishment! lol Oh by the way, how do you do it? I am only doing 100 containers this year and have split them into months. I am already done with my January seeds, and now HAVE to wait until February to do any more. So how are you able to hold off, while I sit here dying cuz I wanna do more?

I sowed six containers on Jan.7th and that was it - nothing since. I have no more comment...LOL...Marylee

Buying soil this evening, WS tomorrow with the church greenhouse gang and will start my own on Wednesday! At least went thru seed today to see that almost everything I want is an annual. Or at least I have lots of annual seeds so I'm saved this year...

Sheepish confession time: I didn't get anything sown this weekend. I made it as far as moving the soil indoors to thaw (it's sitting in my kitchen). Sigh. I'm going to try to get a bunch done tomorrow; I REALLY want to get my seeds going.

    Kick me?

    Laurel

Ok, now I know someone had to kick me! My husband says to me for the second time now since I bought that dirt last week, "When are you going to start putting your seed containers together?" Lol! When he's worried about what I'm doing with gardening (besides making sure there are no hornworms in the tomato plants,) you know I'm way way behind!
    Remy

    remy - I think that's so cute he's worried.

Mine is more like - when are you going to empty that bag of soil that's hanging around the garage.... it looks terrible

    Carrie

Remy, my DH has been asking too. He's gotten way to used to my garden habits now, and he doesn't even pick off a hornworm. Good lord, he'd run the other way if he ever saw one!

I am way behind this year as well. Only two containers sown so far.

We got puppies late last summer, and they've been tearing up the backyard and ruined my fall veggies in my raised bed garden, so that's been frustrating. I'm trying to figure out ways to keep my containers out of their reach, as well as how to safeguard my little seedlings once they emerge and have the be transplanted into the ground.

Okay, my derriere is no longer "at risk." I sowed my first container tonight (foxglove 'Elsie Kelsey'), and I'm officially on my way. Hooray! I'm sorting and setting aside some seeds to sow tomorrow. (Please don't ask me to say or type that again! I can't believe that all came out without my tongue and fingers getting tied up in the process, lol!)
