It will be a genetic clone of the plant you removed it from so after the root mass catches up it should grow like the "parent". I bet clipping the tip would help bush it out but I think patience is the best course of action.

Lop the top wherever you want the branching to begin.

I think single-trunked crapes are quite attractive.

I agree Dave - I like them better than the multitrunked ones so common.

Saw some HUGE (for Crapes) single-trunked ones down in Raleigh a couple weekends ago.

If my experience is any indication, in time, you will have to make some effort to maintain a single trunk. They all start that way -- even from seed, but they only stay that way if you trim all the suckers and prune along the trunk.

Thanks for the tips, she's looking great so far and also has grown about another 1/2 foot! I'll post another picture when more branches form
