Can you top-cut a self-heading philo?

I'm curious about propagating a self-heading philo.

I have a very large Philodendron x Evansii that I want to cut back. I would like to take the top cutting and root it, but my main concern is that the plant that I cut puts out shoots near the cut and continues to grow. I dont want to stunt the original plant.

Has anyone ever tried this? Any advice?

You can cut the top off and it should resprout from the base. The top half should also root easily, just remove most of the leaves. Leave about 3 or 4 of the newest and cut the rest off. The base will resprout, probably with about 2-3 new growing points that will all grow large eventually like the original plant.

I've taken several cuttings from self headers . I only took small base shoots , and made sure they all had a few roots . I got 8 out of 10 to survive . Never tried to take a mature top .
