There are many good mail order nurseries out there, the one mentioned is not exactly at the top of the list. Go to Dave's Garden, Garden Watchdog and check out what other people have to say about various other nurseries. Yes , the plants will come boxed. 30 plants would probably require several boxes, but they would not be individually boxed. Most of the better mail order nurseries are quite good at packing olants for shipping.

Bluestone gives great bang for the buck--small plants that really take off. For more unusual choices: High Country Gardens, Seneca Hills Perennials, Plant Delights, Klehms Song Sparrow Farm have terrific plants. For (mostly) woodies: Rare Find Nursery, Fairweather Gardens, Forest Farm.

A fine mail order nursery is light years away from Spring Hill.

On a general basis, buying plants through mail order because the price looks really cheap leads to tiny and or dead/dying plants and disappointment.

I was looking at Spring Hill because they have all sorts of garden plans.

if you factor in the price for the plants, shipping, and add the value your time planting, cultivating,caring for the plants, (say 18-25 per hour) I would bet that for close to same money you could hire a person to help with a garden design that uses plants that are right for the spot, more likely to thrive and not waste a season or two dying instead of growing.

And you can always buy a book of garden plans for much cheaper than the amount you "saved" shopping at Spring Hill.
