Did you do any landscaping around the tree? Roots would
have been disturbed and would lead to small leaves.

Girdling roots could also be a problem. You need to dig around
the trunk and see if they is a girdling root strangling the tree.

Holes in leaves may be due to the tree not being healthy.

its simple.. it hates you..

@ gauras - no gardening around the tree - it is in the middle of my yard.
@ Ken & Dan - I'll take some pictures and post what the tree looks like and what the leaves look like. p.s. Hoping my tree learns to love me again!

My Yoshino Cherry tree bloomed but has small leaves too. It was planted last year. I don't know what to do. It has been in the ground for 2 years. We have mulched it as well. We don't want to lose it since it is quite tall. We live in North Carolina (zone 7).

Ken, Thanks for your quick response. Yes we did have a cold snap but 35 feet near the tree is another Yoshino tree. It's leaves are large and looking very healthy. I will send you a picture shortly. Iris

I researched this because the same seemed to be happening to my Yoshino Cherry even though I just planted it weeks ago. I was informed by a botanist that this happens in periods of very wet weather . He said dont treat it and just monitor it . Another words it could be getting too much water.
