There are a few of these planted in a Walmart parking lot near me. There are gravel islands in the middle of the parking lot with a couple columnar oaks planted in each island. When I get out of my car I can hear what sounds like DOZENS of birds every time I go to Walmart. I think they must like the thick foliage. I can't tell what kind of birds they are but they're small. Maybe sparrows and finches. I have a big yard, just under two acres so I don't think a columnar oak would look right planted in my yard but I kind of wish I had one to compare to our other oak trees to see if the birds actually prefer them for nesting. The Walmart is in a rural area, lots of homes, trees and shrubs nearby that they could use instead.

I felt a bit stupid standing in the parking lot taking a picture of this tree so I didn't get a good close-up but I'm hoping you can tell what kind it is. They're aren't any acorns right now but I'm sure I've seen some in the past so it's not sterile.
