Does this coffee "table" look okay - yay or nay?

We've been using this storage bin to store our kids' toys. I was looking at pottery barn for a new coffee table and found tables that look similar for approx $500. Figured we could repurpose this bin to use as a table. It's on the small side 3x1.5, but seems to fit nicely in our living room. I was thinking of adding a glass top, to make it look more professional. Thoughts - yay or nay?

I don't mind the basket (great to store throws, etc.), but it just looks a bit too small. And it doesn't look like it is sturdy enough to put your feet up or to put a drink on.

It might be okay but I'd love to see a glass top table in your space. Don't know how old the kids are and many houzzers have reservations about glass with kids and fingerprints. On the other hand--glass cannot have the finish marred by rings from wet drink containers.

Even a wire table would work--just something more airy and open.

I think it looks wonderful. Perfect size for your living room and you can still store items in it.

The basket looks ok in your room, but I'm not a fan of having it as a coffee table. It seems too small and it can't be used as a table,,you would need a top for it. Do you have space for it somewhere else in the room?

I agree with printesa. I'm also not a fan of coffee tables in general. Why not find a couple of end tables and leave the room open?

Well, you can't put your feet up on end tables. The wicker doesn't look too bad, but as the others said, it's maybe a little small.

How about a round Ottoman...but one with relatively thin legs so as not to block the beautiful rug. Comfy for propping up feet, and if you find one with a removable cushion, you can also easily convert to serving space for a gathering. Barring that, I vote for a large round glass top table....maybe one with an interesting base of twigs, architectural element of some sort.

I like this one for your space. It's a little bit bigger, nice storage and only $249 I know trunks are not the best decision design wise, but if you want a trunk style for storage this one is "cool".

I have a similar one from Ikea $59.99 that I've used for years as a coffee table. Great for cleaning up in a pinch. (All my sons misc toys/books go in there) I have a large wooden serving tray on mine to balance drinks and plates on

It looks too small and I agree adding a piece of glass would help. I think a dark metal base with glass would be better. Stay around 36-42 " no bigger, the other option is to get a large ottoman so you could still use it for deep storage, you could then have a nice tray on it. I would prefer the glass idea, if the corners are rounded it should be fine with children, wood can be just as hard if they fell on it. Cleaning a glass top is simple and a wood piece would get fingerprints too.

Nay. I'm thinking small circle coffee table for that space. I like the glass one first posted OR if you like to get comfy in that room you could definitely pull off a round leather ottoman in there as well.

As others have said it is too small for that sectional.

Just putting a glass top on it is going to look like you just put a piece of glass top on it. I don't think it will look properly finished.

Once the glass is on it how will you open it?

The room seems a bit dark. Try injecting some color or lightness in the room.

It would be nice to be able to see your rug.
