First Time Winter Sower!

Hi!

Just finished winter sowing for the first time and had to share! I am surprised how easy and fun it is! I sowed 21 milk jugs:

Hollyhock

Rudbeckia

Foxglove

Panises

Poppies

Bachelor Buttons

Delphinium

Columbine

Northern Sea Oats

Moulin Rouge Sunflowers

Alyssum

Thanks for all your help on this thread -- you all gave me the confidence and faith to cut open all those milk jugs I have been saving all winter.

Congratulations, Camontour! Once you see your first little sprouts, you'll be hooked for sure!!!

    It's nice to see a fellow RMG'er over here : )

You have a nice variety of seeds sown. It is easy, so much so that when one is done a few surprise extra ones just happen to get added, after all here is another empty jug (wink).

Look forward to sharing your excitement when you see your first sprouts.

Fantastic and welcome to the forum! If you haven't done so already, be sure to include your jugs in the Official Container Count.

Welcome camontour!!!! You're hooked. This is so much fun...my first year here too. Very helpful folks and very encouraging. Have fun and sow, sow, sow!

Bet you will have lots of babies growing up this year. Nice choices to start and good luck!

Thanks everyone! We had a litle snow in Denver Tuesday and my jugs have condensation, so I am anxiously optimistic. If they all germinate, I am going to have to make some new beds. Darn! :)

Also a newbie WSer and fellow RMGer - yeah for the problem of what to do with all the WSing successes:))

I think I cooked a few sprouts, so learn from my mistake(s) and open those jugs when the weather is nice...I'm also lugging jugs into the garage when it's cold...

    Good Luck -

Just to follow up: Everything as sprouted so far except the sea oats and columbine. In fact, several have started true leaves and I should be thinking about planting out soon. This weekend I hope to start my zinnias, marigolds and cosmos.

HOly Cow! Just a month! Good for you! Got those new beds ready yet?

    Hi!

I just wanted to follow up how well everything is doing my first year of Winter Sowing. I haven't figured out how to post photos but everything I sowed in February germinated is in the garden and growing away. I saw buds on my Bachelor buttons today, which motivated me to post.

    Big successes:
    Hollyhock
    Rudbeckia
    Foxglove
    Panises
    Bachelor Buttons
    Northern Sea Oats
    Moulin Rouge Sunflowers
    Alyssum
    Cosmos

Doing just OK in there because I think I divided them too much:
    Oriental Poppies
    Delphinium

    Biggest Surprise:
Columbine: not only germinated, but looks happy in its spot.

And I have tons of zinnias and marigolds I sowed in mid May that are eager to be planted out!

Thanks to everyone for your posts and advice. I am already thinking about what I want to sow next year.

    Christy
