I had chives sprouting up more than 50 feet from the area they usually grow in. Anytime a single tiny chive seed (bulbil) sticks to my soaker hoses, they get deposted anywhere the hoses go.

Ken, do I understand correctly? You are moving your soaker hoses around?

The soaker hoses all get taken out of my garden every fall. I have to remove these in order to till the whole garen every spring and fall. Each time they are set down, they are governed by the position of the plants and seeds I put in. This year, as the plants get put in, I zig-zag the soaker hoses within the rows. Mine are this black porous hoses about the same diameter as a regular garden hose. They usually last me about 5 or more years, and by then they start to crack, split, or have larger leaking areas. The chives are at the edge of my vegetable garden and the hoses pass right under their raised bed area. The chives actually don't get the soakers though, jut the rest of the garden.
