    The island counter is solid wood, stained a very dark brown. Even up close, it looks like stone. We love it too!

    love the island but would prefer to have 6 seats "in table style" than in a row, how would you modify this island and still keep the beautiful curve in front? How does the wood hold up in a very busy kitchen?

    Durability of wood counters depends on species and finish. Wood will dent, scratch and change color... and that is the beauty of the material. As it ages, it gains a patina.

    Oops... With all that about wood above, I need to make a correction. The project architect for this project informed me that the counter IS in fact stone. The wood counter which I am referring is on another project. It is a beautiful counter though. Sorry for the miscommunication.

    well it looks like wood! what is the stone, color etc... i love it and would like to find it in my area for my kitchen! I saw the other pictures of this home beautiful! great renovation.
