While a picture may be worth a thousand words, a hands-on, inperson pruning class is worth a million! Honestly, the communication of accurate and helpful pruning techniques - particularly as it pertains to fruiting trees - is not well served through either words or pictures, although there are couple of very good pruning texts that come close. Late winter during full dormancy is the preferred pruning time for most fruit and nut trees and many retail nurseries and/or county extension services will conduct pruning classes at that time.

Attending a pruning class presented by a qualified instructor is more than worth the effort and time to find one and attend.
